C.A.P.A.F. Interview

 

It is a brand of handbags made in Italy with a dominant tradition behind it, and it was born in Scandicci in 1947. It is renewed season after season thanks to the passion of the owner Giuliano Bonechi and his wife Marina, always in the sign simple aesthetics, sublimated by details. 

Who is Capaf today, and what is the vision of the brand?

"It is an artisan company that wants to maintain its craftsmanship to produce objects that are essential yet refined, with attention to the details  because the processing of leather, especially on baskets for CAPAF is crucial."

How has this company changed in recent years?

"The company defends the elements of tradition: we have an immense archive from which we draw old designs that we rework stylishly with unique leather details that enrich poor items.

What are the iconic bags?

"The wicker ones. If you take a wicker basket, it is a poor item, but the enrichment of well-made leather makes it a unique precious item. The secret is the synergy between the materials: a material considered poor like wicker with the enrichment of these extremely well-made leather details."

Does innovation count?

"Definitely, yes. We use metallic details, much more sophisticated than in the past." 

What are you presenting at White this season?

"Handmade woolen bags, knitted or crocheted in fairly classic shapes that trace back to the CAPAF aesthetic and in bright colors."

Is there anything of which you are particularly proud?

"The zippers on the straw and wool bags we created a long time ago, nowadays, you see a lot of them while we made them more than ten years ago."
