WSM INTERVIEWS - ASAHI KASEI

Born one hundred years ago, Asahi Kasei Corporation is a Japanese multinational company operates worldwide, in a wide range of industrial sectors. In line with the corporate mission “Creating For Tomorrow” and in relation to current social changes, the Company focuses today on bringing its valuable contribution to a society that, in harmony with the environment, puts healthy living and comfort at the center.

For the second consecutive time to WSM, Asahi Kasei presents Bemberg, the innovative fiber that after playing a leading role in the slipcovers segment for elegant dresses, in the last decades it has expanded its horizons and applications, from underwear to activewear. Three questions to Ettore Pellegrini, Marketing and Sales Manager of Asahi Kasei Fibers Italy».

What is Bembergand why is it a responsible innovative material?

«Originally conceived in 1931, Bemberg™ by Asahi Kasei is not just a simple thread, but the product of over 90 years of high-tech research and experimentation and commitment to a sustainable future. The result is a high-performance fiber with a circular economy footprint. In fact, it is realized starting from the smart-tech transformation of pre-consumer material of cotton Linters, converted through a traceable and transparent closed cycle process. Bemberg™ is a biodegradable and compostable material as verified by the third party INNOVHUB. In addition, Bemberg™ threads are capable of degradation and the very low concentration of hazardous substances in Bemberg™ complies with the limits of UNI EN 13432».

What are new applications of Bemberg presented to WSM?

«We are talking about a new version that opens new creative paths, with an extension of the scope of the product also to knitwear and casual clothing, always with the perspective of a circular fiber whose production takes place in a closed cycle, in the name of transparency and certified traceability. Likewise, at WSM we shared for the first time a collection of T-shirts created in synergy with MagnoLab, a network of companies from Biella that carries out initiatives and partnerships related to responsible fashion and circularity. The T-shirts are made both using 100% Bemberg materials and in a blend with other certified fibers, including GOTS cottons and RWS wool».

It is necessary to join forces today, and it also seems to bear good fruits in terms of shared responsibility.

«Today more than ever collaboration between companies is fundamental, the last few years have taught us that the creation of networks is the key for a collective and conscious success, capable of activating real change. This partnership fits perfectly into our strategy of development on the Italian territory, linked to the textile excellence of our districts and the expansion of the Bembergfiber in the contemporary wardrobe».
