FOCUS ON: The three lives of Rodrigo Doxandabarat - founder of the ethical shoes DOTZ

Among the conversations we had with fashion leaders from the scouting world, we point out the one with the  Argentinean Rodrigo Doxandabarat - founder and creative director of DOTZ. His complex and heterogeneous life, characterized by a wealth of experiences of deep ethical value, which converge in his project of sustainable footwear DOTZ, made of organic cotton, up to his own packaging produced with recycled household garbage in southern Brazil.

A background as model between Argentina and Europe and a solid awereness that led him to work actively for 10 years in international cooperation activities during the years of the war in Iraq on behalf of a French NGO for children, and even earlier, in 1997 with Mother Teresa.  "It all began when I was 18 when I travelled from Spain to China, a journey of great personal depth – that was the time i experienced international cooperations for the first time."

In 2003 he decided to go to Iraq as a human shield, staying in Baghdad for a year and a half, and there is where he completed his first international cooperation project with the fashion industry. Together with Strenesse Gabriele Strehle he created a cooperative area for orphan children, thanks to the help of Progetto Sorriso.

Afterwards, his return to Argentina, but the direct line with Italy continues through his collaboration with Icei - Institute for International Economic Cooperation, with the goal of improving the conditions of vulnerable communities inside favelas, and working on “Progetto Rinforzo” - the second with Strenesse.

He returns back to Italy for vacation and has an important interview with Armani who hired him as Sales Director for the emerging areas of Asia and Africa, and later moved to Brazil with the same role. He then left Armani and took over the role as Retail Director Central America for Dolce&Gabbana. "After a couple of years I decide to change my life, looking for a different personal balance and I started in the most concrete way possible, studying the profession of shoemaker, with the ambition of creating  an alternative business ecosystem usefull for international cooperation." It is 2016 when Linking Dotz comes to life: the project that gives the name to the footwear brand that puts together the objectives of an ambitious initiative: an expression of Cooperation / Collaboration / Sustainability / Economic management of the ecosystem.

"I start small. The living room of my house becomes a small factory: using  Brazilian cotton from small family farms, and then  creating yarns in one city and fabrics in another area, giving life in a short time to an ecosystem that lives together and represents shared value."

A project that is refined season after season, adding social value through the project with the youngsters living in the favelas, who have learned a job consisting in the production of the fabric cases, accessories and interchangeable tassels, key deatils of the product.

An accessory that from year to year has improved in style and quality, that does not expire and stays trendy as it does not chase fashion, but aspires to last over time, open to different seasons thanks to the two insoles included in the package. The colors of the soles come from the flowers of Salvador De Bahia, which when they fall down color the streets with its intense color; the words of the Garota de Ipanema "Olha que coisa mais linda, mais cheia de graça" transcribed in italics on them sound like a manifesto of lightness and positivity that acts as a counterbalance to the deep value behind each shoe, which has now conquered the European market, along with the one of Chile.
