Shopping in the Eternal City: a guide to the best multi-brands in Rome
By Marco Marini
The urbs eterna does not need any presentation. However, visitors often neglect its fashion side because they focus on churches, squares, Imperial remains, and other mirabilia of a place that already Goethe, in '700, defined "the capital of the world". Multi-brands in Rome satisfy the most demanding palates in the fashion field. They have a significant selection of luxury, high-end and contemporary brands, ideal destinations to go shopping after visiting the capital. Let's see the best ones:

Rinascente Roma Tritone
Rinascente has been a synonym of top-class shopping for over a century, with its department stores located in the main Italian cities. The one in Rome in Via del Tritone is not an exception. It was inaugurated in 2017 after 11-year renovation work, during which the remains of the Acquedotto Vergine of 19 B.C. had emerged. They are now displayed in the basement of the building. The result is an 8-story store with monumental dimensions (14,000 sqm) that features the elite of Italian and international fashion among shop-in-shop of Maisons such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Valentino, space for shoes, accessories, and ready-to-wear, rooms devoted to style and spaces whose interior design evokes the splendor of noble palaces in Rome, for a total of 800 brands. The icing on the cake is the Food Hall on the top floor, with restaurants and bars from which to enjoy a panoramic view.

Degli Effetti
Since the mid-1980s, Degli Effetti has stood out for its pioneering approach to brand research. It was one of the first retailers that brought to Italy the triad of Japanese designers (Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo di Comme des Garçons), who, at that time, were disrupting the Parisian scenery through deconstruction and stratification of outfits. Today, in the two stores in Piazza Capranica, not far from the Pantheon, eclectic and radical creators add to the already mentioned designers, including Haider Ackermann, Sacai, Jil Sander, Marni, Paco Rabanne, and Proenza Schouler. To catch the attention are the current collaborations like the one signed by Rick Owens with Dr. Martens, Champions e Veja.

Zita Fabiani + Insight
Opened in 1963 in the area of Talenti, the boutique Zita Fabiani managed to compensate for its secluded location with meticulous attention to customers and continuos scouting, balancing iconic names of the fashion system and exceptional realities of the Made in Italy. Recently, it joined forces with Insight to gather in a single location the sophisticated signature of the Roman multi-brand (included in collections of brands such as Brunello Cucinelli, Tod’s, Herno, Church’s, Polo Ralph Lauren...) and the designer labels with the contemporary appeal of the Apulian concept store, from Palm Angels to Kuboraum, from Golden Goose to Heron Preston. The restyling in 2016 turned the store in Via Ojetti into a space of marble, brass, and natural fabrics, refined and luxurious. It was chosen as a movie set for some scenes of "House of Gucci", the long-awaited biopic with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver as protagonists.
